Two people can book the identical set of extensions and walk out looking completely different. The set is only half the decision — the other half is the map, and the map should be drawn around your eye shape.
What Lash Mapping Means
Before any extension is applied, your artist divides the lash line into sections and assigns a length to each one. Short at the inner corner, longest wherever the eye should be opened up, tapering again at the outer edge. That plan is the map, and it is what decides whether the finished set lifts your eye or drags it down.
Almond Eyes
The most forgiving shape — almost any map works. A gentle graduation with the longest lashes just past the centre keeps the natural balance. If you want drama, this is the shape that carries a cat-eye best.
Round Eyes
Length in the centre makes round eyes rounder. A cat-eye map — longest toward the outer third, with a stronger curl at the outer corner — stretches the eye horizontally and gives a more elongated look.
On a hooded lid, a long lash disappears under the fold. A stronger curl (a D rather than a C) lifts the lash out from under the hood, which does far more than adding millimetres.
Downturned Eyes
The outer corner sits lower than the inner. Length applied there follows the droop and emphasises it. Instead, the map keeps the outer corner short with a strong curl and puts the length just before it — a lift, rather than a wing.
Monolid and Deep-Set Eyes
Monolids benefit from a consistent, strong curl right across so the lashes are visible from the front rather than sitting flat against the lid. Deep-set eyes suit slightly shorter lengths with a defined curl — too much length simply brushes the brow bone.
The right map on the wrong shape looks fine. The wrong map on any shape looks off, and nobody can quite say why.
