Every autumn we hear the same thing at our Oshawa eyelash salon: “my lashes were fine all summer and now they are falling out.” It is real, it is seasonal, and most of it is fixable with two or three small changes.

Your Natural Lashes Shed on a Cycle

Every natural lash grows, rests and falls out on its own schedule, and you lose a few every day whether you wear extensions or not. What changes in autumn is that more of them hit the shedding phase at once — the same seasonal shift that makes the hair on your head come out in the shower in September. Extensions do not cause it; they just make it visible, because each lash that falls takes an extension with it.

Then the Heating Comes On

Furnace air is dry air, and dry air makes the adhesive bond more brittle. At the same time we start taking hotter showers, drinking hotter drinks and standing over more steam. Heat and humidity swings are the two things the bond likes least, and autumn hands you both in the same week.

Cleanse More in Autumn, Not Less

Dry indoor air makes the eye area produce more oil to compensate, and oil is what breaks the bond down. A daily foam cleanse matters more in October than it did in July.

The Habits That Cost You Retention

Sleeping face-down is the biggest one — a lash pressed into a pillow for seven hours will not survive the week. Rubbing your eyes when the heating dries them out is the second. Oil-based cleansers, heavy eye creams and waterproof mascara are the third. None of these ruin a set on their own; together they can halve how long it lasts.

Cleanse daily · sleep on your back · keep the fill booked

Book Fills Slightly Closer Together

If you normally come every three weeks, autumn is the season to make it two and a half. It is not upselling — it is that filling a set with 60 percent of the extensions remaining is quicker and cheaper than rebuilding one that is down to 30 percent. Letting a set get too sparse usually means paying for a full set again.

Retention is not luck. It is a cleanse, a pillow position, and a fill booked before the set gets thin.

Keep Your Set Looking New

Cleanse daily with a lash-safe foam, brush with a clean spoolie every morning, keep oils away from the eye area, and do not stretch fills past three weeks in the colder months. Read our full lash aftercare guide, see how long extensions last, or browse lash services.
